Christmas is always a hectic and expensive time of year. Dinner parties, cocktail evenings, and gatherings full of wine and food. But all those cheese boards and bottles of wine can really start to add up and push your budget over the edge.
I've reviewed a HUGE amount of the Aldi Christmas items so you know what's worth your money and what you should skip. I had 6 friends over and we tried and graded everything. So, it's not just my opinion, but a general consensus of what's worth it and what's not.

What we tried
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Truffle honey baked camembert- £2.99
The baked camembert is always one of the most popular items at Christmas. This truffle one was amazing! A very strong truffle flavour with lots of flecks of real truffle in the honey. Absolutely incredible.
⭐️⭐️Mulled wine and cranberry baked camembert- £2.99
This baked camembert was a mixed review. Some people absolutely loved it, but some of us found it a little bit on the sweet side. It would be perfect for an after-dinner or cocktail party cheeseboard.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mature cheddar cheese bake- £2.79
This little pot of cheese was the most unassuming thing that I purchased and its the thing that everyone talked about the most! Absolutely everyone LOVED this cheese. If you only add one baked cheese to your cheeseboard this year, please make sure it's this one.
⭐️ Garlic and herb prawn skewers- £3.99
These were only okay. The prawns are tender but the herb marinate didn't have too much flavour. You can cook these in the oven, under the grill or in a frying pan. I would suggest the frying pan method so they don't dry out.
⭐️⭐️Tandoori prawn skewers- £3.99
These were very good. The tandoori spice was prominent but not overwhelming. We really liked these ones. Again, I would suggest cooking them in a frying pan rather than the oven.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Scallop and champagne gratins- £3.29
These were absolutely incredible!!! Everyone loved these ones. They serve 2 people as a starter, but if you're serving a buffet-style set up then they'll serve about 4 people. Each shell has about 6 small scallops, so people won't have to worry about cutting them if they share which is great. Buy extras, your guests will be asking for more!
⭐️⭐️⭐️ No beef wellington- £4.99
An incredible vegan option! The pastry cooked well and became crisp and golden and the mushroom filling was rich and flavourful. It was so great that one guest thought it was beef! Your vegetarian and vegan friends will be absolutely over the moon if you serve them this.
⭐️⭐️ Cranberry and orange salmon- £7.99
This cooked up amazing. For the price, it's an incredible addition to your holiday menu. It looks great with the citrus over the salmon and with the glaze added it really makes it shine. Some people thought the glaze was a little bit on the sweet side, so you can add less of it, or keep half the salmon glazed and half unglazed. It didn't dry out in the oven and the texture was great. It also looks really impressive on a platter in the centre of your table.
⭐️⭐️ Mini chicken bakes- £1.99
These chicken bakes are lovely, especially for kids or people that like milder flavours. The pastry puffed up really nicely and turned a lovely golden. The chicken filling is well seasoned but not too salty. A great item to have in your freezer for casual drinks and nibbles.
⭐️⭐️ Festive turkey pies- £2.19
I was really not sure about these ones. It's a turkey dinner in an individual pie filling. But they were a very pleasant surprise. They're a great item for a quick mid-week dinner to get you in the Christmas spirit.
At £5.99 this was a little disappointing. It didn't have as much cheese flavour as we were hoping for and there were no chunks of lobster. There was lobster in there, they were just very small pieces, rather than larger chunks. Smaller pieces of lobster and crayfish ensure that there is some in every bite, but it just didn't wow anyone. It was also the item I was looking forward to the most. Happy I tried it, but wouldn't buy it again.
⭐️ Chicken satay skewers- £1.99
Perfect for helping to fill up your buffet table with something that everyone will love. Just be careful when you cook them, as they can dry out very easily.
⭐️⭐️ Potato dauphinoise- £2.29
These dauphinoise have the same mature cheddar as the cheese bake that everyone loved so much. These dauphinoise were rich and creamy. They're great if for a small celebration where a whole tray of potatoes would be too much to make. I thought they could have been a tiny bit creamier, but other than that I would have given them a 3-star rating.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Chicken liver pate- £2.99 Pate, for most people is a love-it-or-hate-it affair. And it can be difficult to get right. It's often associated with high-end budgets, but this one is on par with any other expensive pate that you'll find. A definite purchase if you like pate.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Goose fat roast potatoes- £2.39 These are a WOW! I cooked them from frozen for 20 minutes in the air fryer and they are incredible! I would make these over roasting my own potatoes every Christmas.
⭐️⭐️ 3 Bird sausage rolls- £1.89 These were great little one-bit buffet items. These had great sage and herb flavour and the meat filling was generous. Perfect to add to your boxing day table.
⭐️ Chocolate and hazelnut churros- £1.99 These were the least favourite dessert. I very much liked them, but I was the only one! They bake up crispy, but didn't get golden as they would when fried. The sugar packet didn't have enough cinnamon to our taste, so we had to add more, which made everyone like them a little more! Also, they would have to be eaten hot, which makes them a little bit hight maintenance for a buffet.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Speculoos cheesecake- £2.99 The price for this cheesecake is unbelievable! It feeds 10 people very generously. The texture and flavour are great. My only (minor) complaint with this is that the biscuit base was a little sandy and didn't have enough butter. But, other than that, this cheesecake was incredible. You do have to cut it yourself, so I'd suggest to cut it while it's still slightly frozen to make it easier.
⭐️⭐️ Marbled winter berry and lemon roulade- £3.99 This was lovely. The texture was light as air and the cream was light and fluffy. We really liked this one. We would have given it 3 stars, but there wasn't really a berry flavour that we could detect. It was very fresh and lemony. Perfect for after a rich and decadent dinner. But, for it to get three stars, the berry flavour would have had to be detectable.
