The BEST Nutella Brownies

Ingredients

  • 225 g (1 ¾ cups) caster sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 225 g (1 cup) butter
  • 225 g (8 oz) dark chocolate
  • 100 g (¾ cups) plain flour
  • 100 g (1 cup) cocoa powder
  • 175 g (½ cups) Nutella spread

Instructions

Preheat and Prepare:

  • Preheat your oven to 160ºC.
  • Line a 23 cm square baking pan with parchment paper.

Bowl Setup:

  • Bowl 1: Place the butter and dark chocolate in a medium bowl that fits snugly over a pan.
  • Bowl 2: Whisk together the plain flour and cocoa powder in a small bowl.
  • Bowl 3: In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and caster sugar until the mixture is almost as thick as mayonnaise. This will take a few minutes using an electric hand whisk.

Melt Chocolate and Butter:

  • Place Bowl 1 over a pan of simmering water. Let the chocolate and butter melt together, stirring well to ensure they are fully incorporated.

Combine Mixtures:

  • Once the chocolate and butter are melted and the egg mixture is whipped, slowly pour the melted chocolate into the egg mixture, whisking by hand to blend together.
  • Add the flour and cocoa mixture to the bowl and whisk until fully combined.

Prepare for Baking:

  • Pour the thick batter into the prepared baking pan.
  • Dollop the Nutoka or Nutella spread on top of the brownie mix. Use a hot knife or toothpick to swirl the spread into the brownie.

Bake:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes. The top should look set, but the brownies should still wobble slightly when you gently shake the pan.

Cool and Serve:

  • Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.

Notes

  • Low Temperature Baking: Baking at 160ºC ensures a fudgy texture, so resist the temptation to increase the temperature.
  • Swirling Tips: Ensure your Nutella is at room temperature for the best swirl effect.
  • Cutting Clean: Use a hot knife for clean cuts after the brownies have completely cooled.
