Simple ingredients make this lentil soup perfect for budget family meals 

Soften the onions and garlic until they are all soft and fragrant.This should only take about 5-7 minutes

Mix in the spices, lentils and carrots. Red lentils have a nutty flavour already so no need to toast them.

Pour in the stock and bring to a boil. Turn down and continue to simmer until the lentils are soft.
